Flash is still a widely used, flexible and powerful technology in the web world. Adobe Flash has been around long before HTML5 and todays javascript based alternatives. Flash can still do many things that more modern technologies don't even come close to accomplishing (complex animations, custom audio/video players, complex fluid layouts...).
Here are some project examples that utilise flash or flex.
- Branded/Corporate Flash presentations and student folios
- Custom dynamic navigational menu systems
- Flash adverts and banners
- Game development
- Prototype and web application development
- AIR applications and utilities (desktop applications written in Flash/Flex)
- Animated effects and enhancements to simple HTML sites
Where flash or flex is not a suitable solution to your business needs, solutions using javascript based frameworks is possible. Technologies such as jQuery, Underscore and Backbone encourage a more flexible, cross platform approach to web application development. Contact me for more information.
Creating and setting up a website is quite straight forward with todays web technologies. Providing the right corporate or personal feel and getting your message across is however the most difficult and important aspect in web development.
DynamicDan uses open source and custom developed technologies to speed up the development process and ensure that your website or web service works reliably and can be updated easily without starting from scratch.
Web Services offered include (but are not limited to):
- Content Managed Websites (Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal, etc.)
- Web application development (Drupal, Codeigniter...)
- Custom developed add-ons or customisations
- Web service integration
- Search engine friendly development
- Website support and maintenance
- Web training and advice
- Online marketing and analytics advice
Depending on the project, rates may be charged per hour, per day or per milestone.
Each project has differing needs and solutions. The first step in working out a development budget is simply to meet and discuss goals and requirements. A minisite may have little content but a massively complex design which requires a lot of fine tuning. Larger sites may require more content strategy planning including taxonomy creation and search engine optimisation.
Building a quote
- Initial meeting to accurately define objectives and expected outcomes (who are the real stakeholders and what do they want?)
- Clearly define the required features and the 'nice to haves'
- Find/research possible existing solutions and technologies
- Estimate complexity and risk (unknown issues? no design?)
- Calculate required extras (hosting requirements, SSL certs, security audits etc.)
- Agree on marketing and analytics desires (SEO, user tracking etc.)
- Factor in external costs needed to fill the gaps
Note that in most cases, a website lacking a design results in costly changes throughout a project. A well thought out web site design should enable rapid understanding and provide a common view and clear talking point for all those involved.
